Artist Statement

The artist, a Black woman, examines the full range of human emotion through her work, encompassing pain, joy, healing, growth, and transformation. Through her art, she explores the complexities of personal growth and the quiet resilience born from lived experience. Each piece she creates is a conversation. Sometimes raw, sometimes tender, but always anchored in truth and shaped by her own journey and life’s lessons. Her work is a celebration of becoming and a testament to what it means to reclaim softness while honoring struggle. Having a minor in psychology deeply influences her creative process, As her work is very introspective and mainly focuses on the complexities of the inner world. She draws inspiration from her own identity, upbringing, and struggles. Macon primarily uses acrylic paint and sometimes charcoal as a means of storytelling and healing, and as a means of liberation. After the pandemic, Macon started to get deeper into her craft and developed her own personal style. A lot of changes happened in her life. Her beloved grandmother, who raised her passed away and that led her to get in touch with her spirituality and search for the deeper meaning in life. Macon often uses her loved ones as her muses because her goal is to bring their personal narratives to life. She also finds inspiration in her own trials and tribulations. One of her biggest inspirations is Frida Kahlo and how she depicts herself in her paintings. Her favorite quote is “I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best. I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to and I paint whatever passes through my head without any consideration”
